With the release of his cult mixtape Leipie Van Het Plein, Donnie was instantly seen as the De Jeugd Van Tegenwoordig-protégé. His delivery and resourceful wordplay have certainly been inspired by this and De Jeugd producer Bas Bron has provided his albums with a thick electrofunk sauce, but ‘Maradonnie’ has claimed his own crown and his rule goes far beyond Amsterdam.
